NOTE: Research shows Giovanni Andrew Boscia was born on November 30, 1881, in Italy, to Anthony and Grazia. He married Francesca Zaffiro on April 28, 1907, in Manhattan, New York. They had seven children in 10 years. He died in Jersey City, New Jersey, at the age of 92.

Angelo Joseph Boscia was born on December 17, 1914, in West New York, New Jersey. He married Josephine and he died, at the age of 83.

 

 Anthony Rocco Boscia was born on August 16, 1916, in West New York, New Jersey. He married Alleyn R. Koransky and he died in Hackensack, New Jersey, at the age of 72.

 

John Andrew Boscia was born on April 17, 1919, in West New York, New Jersey. He married Helen Corallo in 1946 in New Jersey. He died in Wayne, New Jersey, at the age of 93.

Eleven Studio Portraits from the Watkins / Belford / Roper / Family

 

These photographs have all been labeled a long time ago, in black ink, and more recently in blue ink. The identical handwriting in both cases and same first names place them all in the Bedford/Roper/Watkins Family.

 

First a beautiful baby portrait labelled “Vivian Belford, Roper - Aunt Lillie’s and Uncle Nate’s girl. It was sent to Sylva and Jake.

 

Second is a framed studio portrait from Seattle, of two pretty girls. It is labeled: “daughter’s of Uncle Nate’s and Lilly Bedford. Thelma and Vivian Belford. Mom’s cousin Flo.” 

NOTE: Research shows William M Belford was born on December 9, 1867, in Indianapolis, Indiana, his father, William, was 33 and his mother, Martha, was 27. He married Bessie Anderson and they had one daughter together. He then married Lillie May Bagwell and they had three children together. He died on December 19, 1948, in Seattle, Washington, at the age of 81, and was buried there.

 

Vivian Pearl Belford was born on October 9, 1903, in Oklahoma, to William and Lillie Belford. She married Lynn Arthur Roper on June 28, 1922, in Tacoma, Washington. They had one child during their marriage. She died in Seattle, Washington, at the age of 91.

 

Thelma Opal Belford was born on June 29, 1905, in Yale, Oklahoma, her father, William, was 37, and her mother, Lillie, was 30. She married Frederick William (Bill) Christiansen on May 28, 1925, in Seattle, Washington. They had one child during their marriage. She died on March 28, 1983, in Edmonds, Washington, at the age of 77, and was buried in Seattle, Washington.

 

Third is a framed studio portrait from Phillipsburg.  It is labeled: “Our Family Picture taken just before Donald went into the service. Bob and Doris Krause - she is a sister to Donald W. Walkins also their parents Billy and Flow Watkins”

NOTE: Research shows: Carl Arthur Whitney was born on December 11, 1894, in Phillips, Kansas, to Wilbur and Virginia. He married Bessie Irene Watkins on August 2, 1916. They had three children during their marriage. He died in his hometown at the age of 77, and was buried in Phillipsburg, Kansas.

"Bessie" Irene Watkins was born on June 20, 1895, in Logan, Kansas, to John and Nancy. She married Carl A Whitney and they had three children together. She then married Carl Whitney on August 2, 1916. She died in Phillipsburg, Kansas, at the age of 89.

He died on December 30, 1924, in Keener, Indiana, at the age of 78, and was buried in De Motte, Indiana.

 

Alonza Edmond (Edd) Coberley was born on December 2, 1875, in Indiana, to James 29 and Sarah 20. He married Emma C. Hult in 1906 in Marion, Oregon. He died on August 7, 1951, in Silverton, Oregon, at the age of 75, and was buried in Marion, Oregon.

 

James Coberley was born on October 20, 1880, in Indiana, to James 34 and Sarah 25. He married Anna Myrtle Hanson on November 26, 1902, in Newton, Indiana. He died on June 28, 1903, in Jasper, Indiana, at the age of 22, and was buried in Morocco, Indiana.

 

Emma C. Hult was born on April 14, 1882, in Oregon, to Charles 36, and Elizabeth 35. She married Alonza Edmond Coberley in 1906 in Marion, Oregon. They had one child during their marriage. OUR PHOTO DATER NOTED: The picture is interesting. I would say she is from the 1840’s or 50’s based on her hairstyle, the style and pattern in her dress and open neckline. She is holding a small book which indicates she could read.

RESEARCH SHOWS: She was born July 27, 1823 in Sutton, Worchester County, Massachusetts.

She died January 18, 1893 on Spear Ranch, in Bighorn, Wyoming. She was the daughter of Lewis Torrey and Betsy Titus

Forty-six Photographs from the Bonell Family
of Eau Clair, Wisconsin and Puyallup, Washington

These wonderfully preserved cabinet photos chronicle
a family like only the owner of a photo studio could.

From the Bonell studio, at 202 South Barstow Street in Eau Clair, Wisconsin, comes a bevy of lovely photographs of Frederick Bonell's family. By consulting Carl Mautz's Biographies of Western Photographers (1997) it can be determined that Bonell was active in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin in the period 1875-1890. Bonell's photos are part of the Special Collections Library of many colleges including Penn State University.

Some photos are of his wife Mathilda Hinsch Bonell at different ages (she lived to be over 100 years old - 1847 to 1956).

Her sisters, Dora Hinch, Frances Hinsch Schultze and an unnamed one, all have their own photos as well.

Roy Bonell also has a couple of photos at different ages.

But the majority of the photos are of Frederick and Mathilda's children:

Frank ( 1885 - 1948 ) , George ( 1889 - 1933 ), Francis ( 1892 - 1980 ) and Ruth ( 1895 - 1975 ) ( All of the children were born in Eau Clair, Wisconsin and died in Puyallup, Washington, except George who died in San Francisco, CA.) Poor Georgie must have been the daughter that Mathilda thought that she would never have. Georgie is featured in shoulder length blond hair and dresses.

The last photo is of 38 students and their teacher on the steps of their school. On the back it says: 7th Grade Class in the Puyallup Public School (Puyallup, Washington where the family moved to ) - Margaret M.

I found one more photo with these that has the same handwriting on the back. It must be one of their parents or relatives from Denmark. The names are not the same but they must have been in Eau Clair, Wisconsin with the Bonells, since there are photos of them taken there. The photo from Hennetved, Denmark has on the back: Mikelsen - Marn and Martha - picture is parents of Hana - Christian - Copenhagen.

WILLIAM A. TADE was a representative in the General Assembly of the State of Iowa. In October 1861, when twenty years of age, he entered the service of his country as private of Company F, Fourteenth Iowa Infantry, was with his regiment assigned to the Army of the Tennessee and sent at once to the front. At the battle of Shiloh, he was captured by the enemy, remaining a prisoner for eight months, during which time he was incarcerated in the horrible Libby Prison, where he was afterward paroled and exchanged. When he rejoined his regiment, he served as a river detective in the Provost Marshal department. While under Gen. Buford, Mr. Tade was made Quartermaster with the Fifty-seventh United States Colored Regiment.

on March 21, 1900, in Calais, Maine. After her death, he never remarried. He died on January 24, 1961,
in Northfield, Maine, at the age of 85.

They had four children during their marriage. He died on April 25, 1859, in his hometown at the impressive age of 91.

NOTE: Hannah D. Berry was born in 1808 in Chichester, New Hampshire, to John and Sarah. She married Joseph Charles Brown and they had three children together. Sarah A. Brown 1831, John Jacob Brown 1833–1923 and James Drake Brown 1835–1912.    She then married William F. Towle in 1843 in New Hampshire. She died on October 12, 1893, in South Hampton, New Hampshire.

Alice died in 1938 in Essex, Massachusetts.

RESEARCH SHOWS: Franklin Hatmaker was born on June 18, 1873, in Milo, New York, to Wm Spink 33 and Ella Beal 21. He married Caroline "Carrie" R. Millard on May 25, 1898, in his hometown. They had three children in 14 years. He died on February 2, 1961, in Dundee, New York, at the age of 87, and was buried in Himrod, New York.

 

 

 

Ella Beal was born in January 1852 in Yates, New York, to Almon 23, and Martha 22. She died on September 28, 1939, in Barrington, New York, at the age of 87, and was buried in Penn Yan, New York.

 

 

 

William (Willie) H. Hatmaker was born in January 1862 in New York. He had one brother, Franklin. He died on December 16, 1922, in Milo, New York, at the age of 60.

 

 

 

Leska Hatmaker was born in 1888 in New York, to William 49, and Ella 36. She married Morris(Maurice) Haley on October 28, 1925, in Milo, New York. She died on March 20, 1968, in Steuben, New York, at the age of 80, and was buried in Wayne, New York.

The second photo is of Ivy Kerlinger, dated Dec. 25, 1898.
and was given to Georgia B. Klinefelter. It has no location.

The third photo is an excellent photograph of a Civil War era woman.
It is even harder to read but it definitely has the same last name.
The first initial appears to be a "J" (Jane?) and it is from York, Pa.

There is also a prayer book with land maps and letters.
The book was given to Mrs. Frish from Margaret Tuttle.

This family photo album is a collection of oversized photos from the 1800's.

They are all different sizes. 2 are large (approx. 7 3/4" x 10") colored tintypes of

Mr. & Mrs. James Cyrus Stinson shown in the picture.

One is a family photo of 7 people with names below in pencil on album page.

Most of the pictures have on back who they are.

Some were glued onto pages at one time but have come loose since then.

The album is actually a scrapbook full of amazing oversized photos.

family, in front of their plankboard home but no names are listed.

The second one shows eight members of the Gardner family
with Grandpa Gardner identified as "holding the dog".

Third is a photo of Margaret Gardner.
This photo was taken in Rock Valley, Iowa

The fourth photo is of Grandma Gardner and was taken
in Canton, South Dakota. This could be the
same woman. Both are addressed to Sherman.

The fifth one is of three children: Anna (?) Gardner, Roy
Crawford and Hilda Morse and was taken in Canton, South Dakota.
The last photo is a photo postcard sent to the Gardners.
It is of a baby boy in a dress, named Fred Hoople. 1 yr. old in 1911.

The first photo shows 2 parents & 4 children and on the back
it says:" Link and Martha Light and their children, Wesley, Curtis,

Research shows: Byrd Lincoln Light b.: 1 Oct 1860 in Freedom, IN
d. 18 Nov 1942 in Brook, Newton, Indiana, was son of Tice Light
& Sarah Ann Johnson, married Martha Ellen Corbin b: 18 Sep 1860
in Washington Twsp, Franklin, OH. Two of their children were
William Wesley Light b: 16 AUG 1886 in Brook, Newton County, Indiana
and Curtis Roy Light b: 24 DEC 1889 in Brook ,Newton County, Indiana
and Alta Naomi Light b: 30 MAY 1895 in Brook, Newton County, Indiana

Three other children mentioned in the research were Delta, Stella Edith and Ida Ethal.
And then a son with an unknown name.
It must be Lorin because I have a picture of him.

The second photograph in this group is of a beautiful
Victorian home with a woman and a small boy, out front.
The back of the photo reads: "Uncle Is (?) Light's house
and Edwin and I, when I kept house for them. Mabel"

The third photo from this group shows parents and 2 children.
The back says: "Mell & Mollie Light with Ralph & Evert Light"
All of the Light photos are good quality, oversized studio photos.

A Dozen Pristine Photo Postcards from Clara Robbins from Minnesota

 

The first one shows seven members of the family in heavy coats.

The next one shows one of the boys (a brother) with the initials F. S.
It is addressed to Clara Robbins in Hibbing, Minnesota.

One shows four family members and says " From brother Joseph in
Buhl, Minnesota to Clara Robbins in Sparta,Minnesota" and is dated April 5,1914.

One which shows a boy and his dad that reads "from your brother Joseph R."

Another one from brother Joseph, shows him a little older.

Still another of brother Joseph says Clara is from Deer Creek, Minnesota

One which has two girls on the front says
" from your sister Flora Leeseberg from Hope, North Dakota "

The next one is unnamed but eight girls in white dresses, bear a strong family resembleance.

One shows the dad with two fine horses and the back reads
"To Clara Robbins of Deer Creek, Minnesota from George Nelson ".

Then a card showing a photograph of an "Otto".

Another show a little girl and her dog and reads: "Misses Clara Lottie Robbins"

The last one is an excellent collector's type photo of two of the men holding
a rack of five large Nothern Pike that they must have caught ice fishing.
It says: "From Frank Leeseberg of Deer Creek, Minnesota to Clara Robbins
in Duluth, Minnesota" and is dated March 1912.

Thirteen Personal Photo Postcards from the town of Ohio, Illinois

I recently purchased these postcards which are so pristine
you would think they were printed yesterday instead of in the 1800's.
( The photos are so cute, I wish I could keep them.
I know they would go for a very high price on eBay.
But I really wish someone from Ohio, Illinois would claim these and make
them available to all of the genealogical researchers from Bureau County.) These are photos of townsfolk and the town. Only one of the cards has ever been used. It was sent by Clara to Miss Jessie Melville from Somonauk, Ill. This photo is of 20 kids (if you count the one popping out the door and the one hiding in the bushes) on the steps of the public school. The kid in front is a black boy who couldn't bear to open his eyes. Another photo is a professional photo of the wood frame school house complete with a school bell in the steeple. It says "No. 18, Ohio, Illinois - Public School" Another photo that is apparently from this same group says "No. 26, Main Street - looking south - Ohio, Illinois" Main Street is not paved but there is a very early type of streetlight that is hanging from a wire. One is of a laughing man peaking out from behind a tree. Another is of three people pretending to float behind two others that are standing on the ground. In the background of these photos are big houses with great big porches wrapping around them. One photo is of a group of 53 people and some are on horseback. Another is of a ballet class of 8 young ladies. Two of the photos are of a group of 4 women posing behind flower gardens. One is of a lady filling a wood bird bath with a barn and a silo in the background. One is of three people standing on a snow drift on top of a fence. One is of a lady mowing her lawn with the help of her son pushing and 3 littler kids pulling on a leather harness. The last one is of two guys with their hands in the air and their feet on a milk can that says Mc Do---, Ohio, Illinois.

Charles Grant Woodhurst was born in Colorado in 1887. He married Evelyn Marie Fry, who was born on October 15th 1892. Their son was George Douglas Woodhurst, who was born 18 NOV 1909 in Bingham Canyon, Tooele County, Utah
Charles had a sister named Inez Lucile Woodhurst. She was born in Colorado in 1892 and got married in 1920 to Albert A. Polk

The associated Harms Family also have photos that show their evolution from Prussia, Germany to Grand Junction, Colorado.

They show a woman from Prussia that comes to America and her family here.

Oversized photos in a standing cardboard frame of an elderly married couple. On the back, is a whole lined page of genealogical information. It reads "Louis Harms - Born in the state of Ohio - In the year of April the 15, 1855 - Mrs. Harms was born in Sanden, England - " In the year of December the 22, 1859 - etc. etc.

And one of immigrant Louisa Harms that is dedicated "to her dear son Louis Harms"

NOTE: According to research, Louisa Godheart was born on Feb. 12, 1828 in Prussia, Germany and died July 30, 1926 in Modesto, Stanislaus Co.,CA. She married Henry August Harms in 1849 in PA., one year after immigrating from Prussia. - they had 11 children: Charles, Henry, William, Mary, Albert, Margaret, Theodore, Peter, Catharine, Fredrick, and Louis
